I Pay Attention

Wind keeps blowing the door open

Slamming it against a stone wall

While I would keep this world at bay

Insistent it keeps intruding

Clouds lower heavy brooding

Grumbling ominously

Loudly rattling windowpanes

Resound with grave discontent

Rain lashes at the red rooves

Gurgling down tile by tile

Gushing from waterspouts

Spilling on granite floors

Changing tempo and volume

Intensifying then relenting

Passion and violence intermix

Monsoon electrifies

I am keeping tabs on nature

Though I pretend otherwise

Through a façade of nonchalance

I pay her attention.
